They should have experience in conducting in-depth research, utilizing various research methods and tools, and interpreting data to develop effective campaign strategies. Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills are essential for this role.

Roles/Duties:

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the research department and develop systems to store research materials and track projects.
    • Lead research initiatives on policy issues, voting records, and backgrounds of political candidates. Remain up-to-date on district priorities and constituent concerns.
    • Direct opposition research efforts to uncover public records, statements, and vulnerabilities of opposing candidates and campaigns.
    • Manage relationships with trackers, local party officials, and other sources to receive relevant updates and information.
    • Analyze research and collaborate with leadership to transform findings into messaging strategies, talking points, and policy positions.
    • Present research briefings to candidates, campaign staff, and party officials on short notice as issues emerge.
    • Recruit, train and manage a team of researchers, trackers, and interns.
    • Oversee development of briefing books, voter profiles, and other materials to prepare candidates for debates, interviews, and events.
    • Work closely with digital team to rapidly respond to emerging stories and controversies on social media.
    • Stay up-to-date on news cycles, political issues, and election dynamics to provide strategic guidance.
    • Ensure all research activities adhere to ethics rules and applicable laws.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have proven experience running successful campaigns along with the strategic vision and leadership skills to guide the candidate to victory. They must be committed to the democratic process and align with the candidate's values.

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years experience directing political research and opposition efforts
  • In-depth knowledge of the political landscape and key policy issues
  • Ability to lead a fast-paced team and juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work extended hours during peak periods
  • Unwavering commitment to Democratic Party principles
